ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated his Kuwaiti counterpart over his appointment to the official position in a Twitter post on Tuesday.
Kuwait named Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Sabah, the emir’s son, to the prime minister’s post in a decree on Sunday, asking him to propose a new cabinet for approval.
“I congratulate His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on his appointment as Prime Minister of Kuwait,” Sharif said in the social media post. “I look forward to working closely with him to further strengthen Pakistan-Kuwait fraternal relations, rooted deep in shared values & commonality of interests.”
Pakistan and Kuwait enjoy close relations with each other, though the two countries have been trying to further strengthen their ties in the areas of trade and investment.
According to media reports, Islamabad decided to send hundreds of doctors and nurses to the Arab country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kuwait was also the first country that sent aid for the people of Kashmir after the October 2005 earthquake.
