ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday condemned a drone attack launched by Yemen-based Houthi rebel in which several civilians were injured at an airport in Saudi Arabia.
According to details, 12 people were injured by a shrapnel at the kingdom's Abha International Airport after an explosive-laden drone was intercepted by Saudi air defenses.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to target civilian travelers.
"Pakistan strongly condemns the drone attack launched by the Houthis to target Abha International Airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which caused several injuries," the foreign office of Pakistan said in a statement. "We wish speedy recovery to those injured."
The statement said such attacks not only violated international law but also threatened Saudi peace and regional security.
"Pakistan calls for immediate cessation of these attacks," it added.
The foreign office said the Pakistani government fully supported Saudi Arabia and stood in solidarity with it against any threat to its security and territorial integrity.
Previously, the Pakistani government also expressed solidarity with the United Arab Emirates after a similar strike on Abu Dhabi.
The attack on the UAE also claimed the life of a Pakistani national who was working with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
