ISLAMABAD: Northwestern Pakistan is likely to be hit by rains and thunderstorms during Eid holidays, the disaster management authority in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said on Friday.
The provincial Met forecast that a western system bringing rains and gusty winds will enter the region on Sunday and is likely to stay until May 5. Pakistan's Eid Al-Fitr holidays ending the fasting month of Ramadan are expected to fall on May 2-5.
“Dust storm and rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm/ hail storm is expected in Malakand, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Battagram,” the Provincial Disaster Management Authority said in a notification.
Kohistan, Torghar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Waziristan, Kurum, Khyber, Orakzai, Mohmand and Bajaur districts of the province are also expected to receive rainfall and thunderstorms during the period.
“The surface wind speed is likely to reach up to 35-45 km per hour, gusting up to 70-80 km per hour over most parts of the region during the period,” the advisory read.
Rain is expected to reduce the temperature in the regions by 4-6 degrees Celsius during the daytime in the forecast period, according to the Met.
Vulnerable areas of the province may experience landslides.
