ISLAMABAD: Australian Test captain Pat Cummins thinks a majority of his team will tour Pakistan to participate in an upcoming cricket series, reported an international media outlet on Thursday.
Australia is set to visit Pakistan in March-April this year and play three Test matches, three ODIs and a T20I.
This will be the first Australian cricket tour to Pakistan in 24 years.
Asked about the upcoming series, Cummins said “it’s all looking really positive” at this stage.
“The amount of work the PCB [Pakistan Cricket Board] has put into it is fantastic,” he was quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “It's shaping up as, I think just about everyone - if not all - will go.”
“If some players need to make a choice [about travelling to Pakistan], it's absolutely fine that they won't be there. Still got a bit of water to go under the bridge, a bit more info to gather and get around to everyone,” he added.
According to the international media outlet, players and support staff have already received a preliminary briefing about security measures in Pakistan.
Cummins, however, was a bit wary of the bubble fatigue that cricketers, in the age of the coronavirus pandemic, have to go through.
"We're two years in, so we've learned a lot," he said. "But it also means probably some players are further along their tether.”
“It's unprecedented times, we just have to make sure we look after each other. Conversations are happening. The selectors have been great along with the coaching staff,” he continued.
The PCB announced the schedule for the upcoming cricket series with Australia in November.
The first Test match between the two sides will begin on March 3 in Karachi while the second Test will be played from March 12 to March 16 in Rawalpindi. The teams will then play a third Test match between March 21 and March 25 in Lahore.
Pakistan has previously hosted Australia for cricket series offshore with mixed results.
