ISLAMABAD: The disaster management agency in Pakistan’s north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province warned on Thursday of urban flooding in the coming days, as heavy rains and snowfall are forecast to hit the region.

A strong westerly wave entered Pakistan’s western and upper parts earlier this week, producing rain and snow. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said it is likely to grip most parts of the province until Sunday.

“Heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding in Peshawar on Friday & Saturday,” the agency said in a notification.

It added that snowfall may also cause road blockages and trigger landslides.

“Farmers are advised to take necessary precautionary measure to protect standing crops from the harmful impacts of stagnant water due to current & expected heavy rains,” the PDMA said.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said it is continuously monitoring the situation and remains in coordination with the provincial disaster relief authorities.
