ISLAMABAD: Egypt clinched the Karachi Open Squash Championship with Karim Abdel Gawad and Nour Aboulkarim winning the men’s and women’s titles on Saturday.

The Karachi Open Squash Championship was held in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi at the Creek Club. Gawad, ranked 13 in the world, defeated fellow Egyptian Youssef Soliman in the final of the tournament.

The scorecard at the end of the match read 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 and 3-0 in Gwad’s favor.

On Friday, Gawad defeated another Egyptian, Omar Mosaad, in the semi-final of the tournament to clinch his berth in the final.

He defeated Mosaad 11-4, 11-4, 11-5, 3-0.

In the women’s category, Aboulkarim, ranked at number 70 in the world, defeated Hong Kong’s C Yuk in the final by 6-8, 9-11, 11-7 and 1-2. The match ended in Aboulkarim’s favor as Yuk hobbled off with an ankle injury.

Aboulkarim had defeated Scottish G Adderley by 11-7, 11-4, 11-5 and 3-0 in the semi-final on Thursday.

The prize money for the men’s winner was $52,500 while the women’s winner walked away with $20,000.
