ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said a new drone-based air security system would be launched in Islamabad this week, state-run APP news agency reported.
The minister’s comments come amid rising crime rates in the capital.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, the minister said 1,000 additional personnel were being inducted in Islamabad Police to improve security.
“A new air security unit would be launched this week having 12 drones to provide a faultless security system to the citizens of the federal capital,” APP quoted Ahmed as saying.
He also said the government had decided to launch a crackdown against those involved in issuing fake coronavirus vaccination certificates or other illegal documents.
Speaking about passport policy, Ahmed said the ministry had fixed a fee of Rs10,000 for a same-day emergency passport service while the ordinary fee would be up to Rs8000. New citizens, he said, could get passports within 24 hours.
“The minister said that there were several complaints about fake national identity cards,” APP said. “While taking action 136 officials involved in this matter had been suspended while 90 inquiries and around 300 charge sheets were being issued.”
Ahmed also announced that a new food park was being launched in Islamabad’s G-6 Melody Market while another one in the Art and Craft Village in Shakarparian.
