Tarout mayor escapes assassination attempt

QATIF: Tarout Mayor Abdulhalim Kidar survived an assassination attempt when armed men fired several rounds at his car leaving him injured near his residence in Al-Desha neighborhood.
The mayor, who received a bullet in the chest, himself drove to a clinic, where he was given first aid before being transferred to a hospital. His condition was stated to be stable by the hospital staff.
“Three armed men fired 13 rounds at the car, but one bullet hit the right side of the mayor’s chest, causing heavy bleeding,” said Mohammed Al-Doraihem, assistant media spokesman of the Eastern Province police department.
Sheikh Mohammed Al-Jabrani, acting judge of the endowment and inheritance department, denounced Saturday’s attack, saying that the culprits will be brought to justice.
“The security forces will not rest until the perpetrators are arrested and held accountable,” he added.
