Malala book launch at Pakistan university halted

PESHAWAR: An official at a Pakistani university intending to hold a ceremony launching a book by a teenage activist shot by the Taliban say they had to call off the event over security concerns.
Sarfraz Khan, director of the Area Study Center of the University of Peshawar, says the ceremony was to launch Malala Yousafzai's book "I am Malala."
But he said the campus police chief called him late Monday and said the event had to be cancelled due to safety concerns.
The 16-year-old Malala was an advocate for education and spoke out against the Taliban.
She was shot in the head in 2012 but survived and is now living in Britain.
Khan said the university's security chief said police could not provide security for the event.
