Zn Lounge is a sushi and sashimi joint, and that is all they serve. The lounge is located on the the ground floor of Roshana Mall on Tahlia St. Wherever you sit, you get a good view of the shops around and people passing by. The place itself is rather sleek and nice with a lot of natural style wood and black throughout. The lack of any ceiling gives it a nice sense of openness. The lounge is actually on the fancier side of the spectrum with a pleasant organic vibe to it. If there is a single element that really kills the overall vibe Zn has achieved, it is simply its placement in the center of the mall. It is not the sort of place you stop by for a snack as you do some shopping, but rather a restaurant you go to when you want to have good sushi. In my opinion, Zn would be much better served as its own entity rather than part of a mall.
The menu has quite a vast selection of sashimi, sushi, hand rolls and specialty rolls. We started with an order of the miso soup, spicy tuna hand roll, spicy scallop hand roll, edamame and the spicy crunchy tuna. The edamame, steamed and served with salt, is always a nice appetizer to munch on until the real food arrives. The spicy tuna and scallop hand rolls were very good, both served with a nice mixture that really brought out the flavor as well as offering a crunchy surprise. Although the miso soup tasted the same as it does in most places, I still enjoyed it thoroughly, as I always do. The spicy crunchy tuna, which was lightly fried in tempura style, was a very nice starter that I had not tried before. The light frying gives it a very satisfying crunchy texture while maintaining the overall freshness of the tuna. I obviously had to share it with my other dinner guests, but I could have easily eaten the whole thing myself.
For our main course, we ordered the shadow maki, jamada passion maki, and the tri color-uzu-zukuri. The tri color-uzu-zukuri is sashimi made up of tuna, salmon, and whitefish sliced almost paper-thin. It was very fresh and tasty, but to be honest I am really more of a sushi guy than sashimi. The jamada passion maki, made with eel, tempura, crabmeat, and other ingredients I was not certain about, was a truly delicious treat. It was a perfect combination of flavor and texture that makes you wish you had an endless supply to pick from. Our waiter suggested the shadow maki to us, and he was not wrong. Made with two different types of salmon, a mayonnaise sauce, and other ingredients, it was extremely flavorful without being overly fishy. At the end of these rolls, I felt fully satisfied and grateful to our waiter for his wise suggestion.
With nice décor, friendly staff and excellent sushi, Zn Lounge has created a truly worthwhile establishment. As I stated earlier, its only downfall is its location within a mall. It is far too nice of an establishment to have to put up with casual shoppers as they walk by along with the poor elevator music that seemed to play throughout. After Zn has achieved its success, which is something I do not doubt, I would only suggest that they expand with a proper restaurant in a better and independent location. Otherwise, I have to commend Zn for providing us with a delightful sushi experience.
