RIYADH, 14 December 2007 — Blue House emerged champions at the Inter-House Sports Meet of the Sri Lankan International School in Jeddah held Thursday. The chief guest for the occasion was the country’s Consul General Abdul Lateef Muhammad Lafeer who was welcomed by primary school children.

The opening ceremony began with the hoisting of national and school flags, followed by the lighting of Olympic torch by the school games captains along with the house captains who took the sports oaths subsequently. Fareeda Wahab, principal of the school delivered the welcome address.

Events contested during the meet were balancing lime and spoon, baton passing, 50m hurdles, and skipping rope.

“A friendly competitive spirit prevailed among the children throughout the meet and there was a lot of fun and excitement to see children cheering participants,” Wahab said at the end of the sports meet. A colorful drill display with live music by the students school band was the highlight of the evening.

During his brief speech, the consul general said that sports is an important extra-curricular activity which should be developed from childhood. He congratulated the school for having organized a meet where there was an overall participation by the students.

Lafeer distributed the prizes and the champion trophy to the winning house. Following are the overall champions from the respective age groups.

Under 11 Boys- Emelio Perera- Blue House. Under 13 Boys- Yasir Naleer-Blue House, Under 15 Boys- Omar Naseef Mohideen, Yellow House,Under 15 Boys -Tuan Barshard Burnadeen-Blue. The much coveted Challenge Trophy was grabbed by the Blue House.

Yellow House became the best squad for the March Past. The event ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Head Prefect Stephanie Dyonisius.
