RIYADH, 13 December 2007 — Mobile communication provider Mobily has announced that it has boosted the capacity of its own network at the holy sites by 58 percent compared to last year. The company also added 82 more coverage sites in the same areas.
Dr. Abdulrahman Ahmed Al-Jafary, governor of Communications & Information Technology Commission (CITC), took a tour on Sunday to inspect Mobily’s locations in the holy sites. Jafary’s tour was part of his inspections to ensure the success of communications during this year’s pilgrimage.
Jafary also visited Mobily’s main switchboard in Muzdalifa. Khalid Al-Kaf, CEO of Mobily, and Abdulaziz Altamami, the company’s COO, received Jafary and briefed him on the company’s preparations for this Haj. They also told him about Mobily’s contingency plans to handle any possible excessive pressure on the networks.
During the last Haj season, more than 850,000 pilgrims used Mobily’s network.
Meanwhile, 38 sales outlets and information booths have been set up to serve the guests of God. Mobily’s “Rihal” prepaid package will be sold at these booths. Pilgrims will also be shown how to utilize the local network and make use of Mobily’s services.
