JEDDAH, 1 December 2007 — Ohud, Wehda and Masira scored victories Thursday night in the Prince Faisal Basketball Championship at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal basketball hall here.

In the first game, Ohud walked away with a 69-49 victory over Al-Nasr.

Both teams played haphazardly in the first half. There were turnovers and missed shots aplenty. When the teams settled down to play ball it was Ohud that came up winning. Ohud’s veterans Abdul Mosen and Walid Al-Madani took charge. Abdul Mosen scored 27 out of Ohud’s total points. Walid Al Madani had a good game, rebounding and scoring. The 1-2 punch was overpowering and Nasr could not answer the call.

Wehda brushed aside Nahda 71-59 in the second game. The first quarter was sloppy and went back and forth. Neither team could find the basket at first. Wehda had the higher energy output and won pulling away.

Mohammed Barnawi, Rashad Barnawi, Hasam and Abdul Kareem Hausawi had good games. Wehda’s young players along with veteran player Saleh might go far this year.

Game 3 pitted Masira against Fath with Masira outclassing Fath 74-53. Both teams need time to develop their talent. The clubs are trying to develop basketball talent with what they have to work with. Hard rubber or concrete floors are not made to play basketball on.

The game is supposed to be played on a wood floor. The clubs need to up grade their facilities to protect the young talent that is playing now.

Wood floors are costly, but not as costly as destroying the young talent that we have.
