RIYADH, 10 May 2007 — The Pakistan Writers Club, Riyadh, held an emergency meeting to mourn the death of Makkah Gov. Prince Abdul Majeed. The meeting paid glowing tributes to Abdul Majeed who served as governor of both Madinah and Makkah regions and played a significant role in the expansion of the Two Holy Mosques initiated by King Fahd. During his tenure, the two holy cities witnessed unprecedented development. The meeting presided over by Faiz Al-Najdi, the PWC president, also discussed Prince Abdul Majeed’s constructive role in the Conciliatory Committee through which he was able to reprieve the death sentences of hundreds of convicts waiting to go to the gallows. Al-Najdi spoke about Abdul Majeed’s overall achievements during his tenure as Tabuk, Makkah and Madinah governor. Other members who spoke on the occasion were: Choudhry Rehmat Ali, H. M. Fayyaz, Abdur Rauf Moghul, Syed Bashir Ahmed, Naim Awan, Sajjad Salim and Shah Jahan Shirazi. The speakers termed his death a great loss for both Saudi Arabia and the Muslim world and prayed for the departed soul.
