LONDON: Jordanian medical teams have performed more than 7,000 surgeries at a field hospital in the southern Gaza Strip since its launch in November 2023.
The hospital in Khan Younis receives between 700 and 1,000 Palestinian patients daily, helping to ease pressure on Nasser Medical Complex, which the Israeli war in the territory has damaged.
The Jordanian Armed Forces operates the facility, which includes specialized clinics, an emergency department, operating theaters and a prosthetics department, providing a range of medical services.
Since June, doctors have received 10 to 15 amputation cases each day and fitted about 300 prosthetic limbs as part of the Restoring Hope Society campaign, launched under King Abdullah’s directives in 2024. Since then, more than 1,200 prosthetic limbs have been provided to patients, according to the Jordan News Agency.
Jordan has operated another hospital in northern Gaza since 2009. The JAF recently added seven specialist and emergency clinics to the facility in the Tal Al-Hawa area.
Amman’s humanitarian initiatives in Gaza also include programs such as the land route for aid deliveries, a mobile bakery and a scheme to evacuate critical patients to Jordanian hospitals.
The death toll from the Israeli war in Gaza rose to 73,375 this week, with 174,220 people injured since Oct. 7, 2023, according to the Palestine News Agency.
