JEDDAH: Muslim World League Secretary-General Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa this week inaugurated the third consultative meeting with Pakistani religious scholars in Islamabad.
The religious leader praised the forum for its rigorous scholarly discussions and broad perspective, reflecting Pakistani scholars’ commitment to unity and solidarity in addressing issues facing Muslims.
He also commended their efforts to build bridges of dialogue and cooperation among diverse Islamic communities and with humanity at large, strengthening Islamic brotherhood and promoting harmony among peoples.
Al-Issa, who is also chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic role as a trusted and respected mediator for global peace.
Following approval by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, the National University of Modern Languages awarded Al-Issa an honorary doctorate in the philosophy of international relations.
According to the award citation, the honor recognized his global efforts to correct misconceptions about Islam, strengthen Islamic solidarity by countering narratives of religious and ideological conflict and extremism and promote dialogue among Islamic schools of thought, religions and intellectual and cultural traditions.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Federal Education Wajiha Qamar, who delivered the welcome address, university President Shahid Mahmood Kayani, members of the faculty and diplomats.
During his visit, Al-Issa met Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss a range of Islamic and international issues. He praised the government’s efforts to mediate in the conflict between the US and Iran.
