LONDON: Two people were killed and 23 others injured in 20 road accidents across Syria over the past 24 hours, state news agency Sana reported on Sunday.
The Syrian Civil Defense said its teams provided first aid to the injured before transferring them to hospitals, while also securing crash sites and clearing roads.
In the same period emergency crews tackled 147 fires in residential and commercial properties, crop fields, grasslands and garbage sites, the report said.
All were brought under control, with damage limited to material losses and no injuries reported.
On Friday emergency teams responded to 14 traffic accidents and 155 fires, in which 17 people were injured, the report said.
Fires and road accidents are a major burden for Syria’s emergency services, with incidents peaking in the hot, dry summer months and during the harvest season.
In the year through July 6 Civil Defense teams tackled more than 10,000 fires, according to figures compiled from state media reports.
They also responded to 180 traffic accidents between June 21 and July 6.
