Heritage museums bring regional history to life at Turaif festival

  • Traditional crafts, collectibles, local products drew visitors during the four-day event

RIYADH:  Heritage museums at the Farmers’ Market Festival in Turaif drew strong interest from visitors and heritage enthusiasts, showcasing collectibles that documented ancient lifestyles, handicrafts, and traditional clothing.

The displays featured antiquities, currencies, heritage photographs, jewelry, ceramics, and traditional tools, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.

The museums highlighted local artisanal skills and introduced younger generations to the region’s history and cultural heritage, enriching the festival experience.

The traditional spindle corner also attracted visitors, displaying heritage crafts linked to local culture and reflecting skills passed down through generations.

Visitors explored how the spindle was used to spin wool into thread for handmade products, while artisans explained traditional spinning techniques and processes, helping preserve and promote heritage crafts.

The corner was one of the activities presented by 17 families working in the cottage industry, with support from the Social Development Bank, which aims to empower families economically, expand marketing opportunities, and provide direct sales channels.

Other featured sections displayed regional dates, fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, and traditional food products, helping increase the economic value of national goods.

Organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s Northern Borders region branch, the four-day festival was held with the participation of various government and private entities.

It supported farmers and local producers by promoting agricultural products, rural goods, and sustainable farming practices, contributing to food security and the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. In addition to the market stalls, the event featured awareness programs on sustainable agriculture and food security.
