DUBAI: An Israeli border police officer has been caught on camera throwing a stun grenade in to a car carrying Palestinians and then holding the door shut while the device exploded inside.
The sickening footage captured the exact moment the attack took place in the Qalandiya refugee camp in East Jerusalem, website Haaretz reported.
Now the officer faces disciplinary action after the officer acted “not in accordance with procedure” and that the Justice Ministry’s department for the investigation of police officers was handling the case.
The report claims the officer can be heard telling the people inside to “Shut your mouth, who are you talking to like that?”
It is at this point that the officer is seen throwing the grenade into the car, before a passenger is seen fleeing from one of the other doors, the driver trapped inside.
Stun grenades are used for dispersing protesters during demonstrations.
Labour party member MK Naama Lazimi condemned the attack, saying it was a “painful reminder of what has been happening in the West Bank for years, and which has intensified under the outgoing government. Unrestrained violence and the erosion of moral boundaries.”
“This is what a state looks like when its norms have been shattered. When there are no limits and everything is permitted, the violence will only grow and spread,” the report quoted her as saying.
