RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s leaders on Tuesday sent their condolences to Qatar following a factory explosion in Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday night that left 13 people dead and several injured.
King Salman sent a cable to Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, offering his sympathies to the families of the victims and the Qatari people.
“We extend to Your Highness, the families of the deceased, and the brotherly people of the State of Qatar our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy,” the king wrote.
He also prayed for mercy for those who died, a speedy recovery for the injured, and continued safety and security for Qatar, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman passed on his own personal condolences to Sheikh Tamim, expressing sympathy for the families of the dead and wishing those who were hurt a swift recovery.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in which it said the Kingdom stood in solidarity with Qatar following the incident. It affirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for its fellow Gulf state, and praised the efforts of Qatari authorities in their response to the explosion. It also offered condolences to the families of the victims.
Qatari authorities said the blast happened at a factory in Ras Laffan, one of the country’s main energy and industrial hubs, and confirmed that 13 people were killed and several injured. An investigation into the incident is underway.
