Saudi crown prince thanks Macron for G7 invitation, says unable to attend

RIYADH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman excused himself on Thursday from attending a G7 summit meeting he was invited to by France’s president due to prior commitments.

In a letter to Emmanuel Macron, the crown prince thanked the president for the invitation to attend the G7 session in the French lakeside resort of Evian on June 16 to discuss the Middle East war.

Next Tuesday’s summit session will focus on the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has “a real impact on our economies” due in particular to soaring fuel prices, and on “negotiations on Iran,” Macron said on Wednesday.

The crown prince affirmed the strength of the strategic relations between Saudi Arabia and France and wished the summit every success, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
