While looking for a nice spot to have breakfast on a recent trip to Abha, my husband and I came across Butter Bakery.
What first caught my attention was the charming exterior of the cafe, with its small white picket fence, lush green trees, stone pathways and an elegant white door framed by beautiful large vases filled with seasonal jacaranda flowers.
The picturesque three-story cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating, and we were spoiled for choice while deciding between sitting outdoors in the garden surrounded by towering trees or on the terrace overlooking a park lined with Abha’s gorgeous jacaranda trees, which bloom in April and May.
We opted to sit on the terrace and placed an order for Danish French cream pastry with fresh berries, cheesecake, truffle eggs, a halloumi sandwich and cold Yemeni V60 coffees on the cashier’s recommendation.
The coffee was excellent, with just the right balance and the perfect hint of bitterness, tempting us to go for seconds.
The warm and flaky pastry was well paired with the lightly sweetened cream and berries, while the sandwich and truffle eggs were equally fresh and appetizing. However, the cheesecake did not really hit the mark for us.
As the jacaranda season was in full swing, the cafe had subtle purple decor and was offering Spanish lattes in lavender-colored cups. Like many others at the cafe, I lined up to get one as well — just for the purple cup.
