Sustainable mobility: MG Jiad Modern to roll out MG 8 PHEV taxis in Makkah

MG Jiad Modern, a Mohamed Yousuf Naghi company and the authorized MG distributor in Saudi Arabia, has announced a landmark partnership with Hafil Transportation, a leader in the Saudi mobility sector. This collaboration marks a significant step in expanding MG’s presence in the Kingdom’s public transport sector, specifically through the integration of the MG8 into the Taxi Makkah fleet, while highlighting the brand’s broader new energy vehicle strategy.

Key highlights of the partnership

  • Operational integration: The MG 8 PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) will be integrated into Hafil’s taxi network in Makkah.
  • Fleet expansion: The initial rollout includes 55 vehicles, with an additional 75 vehicles scheduled for next month, bringing the total to 130 units.
  • Strategic goal: The partnership demonstrates the growing demand for vehicles that balance operational efficiency, durability, and modern technology within the Kingdom’s evolving mobility sector.

Vehicle performance

The MG 8 PHEV is a premium sedan engineered for high-intensity, continuous operation. Key features include:

  • Exceptional range: The plug-in hybrid system provides a combined driving range of up to 1,655 km, making it ideal for long-distance taxi services.
  • Efficiency: It offers reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions without compromising performance.
  • Durability: The battery technology is designed for real-world durability, ensuring consistent performance during extended shifts and reducing the total cost of ownership for operators.

Luxury and connectivity: The vehicle features a spacious, luxurious cabin with advanced connectivity and driver-centric features.

“This partnership embodies our firm commitment to providing sustainable and advanced mobility solutions that align with Saudi Vision 2030. The adoption of MG PHEV vehicles in Makkah proves that hybrid electric technology is ready for intensive use in our local environments,” said Samir Kozom, executive general manager of Jiad Modern Motors.

“This development represents a major milestone in MG’s regional journey. Our full range of new energy vehicles — including hybrid, PHEV, battery electric, and extended-range electric models — is ready to meet the needs of the Middle East market,” added Jacky Shou, executive director of MG Motor Middle East.

As Saudi Arabia develops its mobility infrastructure to meet ambitious sustainability goals, MG Jiad Modern continues to position itself as a practical and scalable choice for fleet and public transport operators. This initiative serves as a powerful testament to MG’s growing role in enabling regional partners to capitalize on emerging opportunities in electric mobility.
