Saudi Reef transforms Taif rose farm into model rural tourism destination

RIYADH: The Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (Saudi Reef) has transformed a Taif rose farm into “a model rural tourism destination that produces high-value oils and perfumes, revitalizing regional trade in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030,” according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The farm owner told the SPA that Saudi Reef’s guidance was instrumental in expanding operations and mastering the complex extraction process for natural oils.

Taif’s moderate climate provides the ideal environment for roses, which are pruned locally in January to prepare for a harvest that must occur before sunrise to preserve maximum oil content.

“This meticulous process ensures the quality of the farm’s signature products, ranging from luxury perfumes to rose-infused linen sprays and musks,” the SPA stated, adding that the farm now “showcases the potential of the rose sector to drive tourism and economic sustainability.”

The success story underscores Saudi Reef’s role in empowering local farmers to turn traditional agriculture into diverse, profitable, and culturally significant enterprises.

Saudi Reef has “played a key role in empowering rural communities, strengthening food security and supporting farmers across the Kingdom since its launch in 2019,” the SPA concluded.
