RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is increasingly making its mark as a premier culinary destination, with the Asir region emerging as a leader on the international food scene.
The Discover Asir platform has been named among the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism’s top 10 foodie websites for 2026, a list guiding culinary enthusiasts to exceptional experiences worldwide.
This milestone comes with support from the Asir Development Authority, which manages the platform in strategic partnership with the Culinary Arts Commission, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.
The platform offers a comprehensive experience showcasing Asir’s authentic and diverse cuisine. It also celebrates the region’s rich cultural heritage through content that connects visitors with local identity and highlights top culinary experiences.
The top 10 list features a selection of platforms offering innovative and culturally rich experiences, including food and beverage tastings, farm and factory tours, cookery classes, craft activities, culinary routes, markets, and fairs.
In 2022, in recognition of its rich culinary and cultural heritage, Asir was named the World Region of Gastronomy 2024 by the institute, becoming the first non-European region to receive the honor.
Nestled in southwestern Saudi Arabia, the Asir region reflects the Kingdom’s rich history and growing tourism appeal. The area’s diverse terrain and unique climate has long attracted travelers seeking a blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.
In 2017, Abha, the capital of Asir, was named the Arab Tourism Capital, in recognition of its natural beauty, climate, historical significance, and cultural heritage.
