Israeli forces enter Syrian villages in Quneitra in breach of 1974 disengagement deal

  • Syria renews its call for Israel to withdraw from occupied southern Syrian territory and a UN demilitarised buffer zone

LONDON: Israeli forces advanced on the outskirts of Al-Salam village in the northern countryside of Quneitra, southern Syria, on Thursday.

Three Israeli military vehicles moved along the main road from Al-Hamidiyah to Al-Salam before withdrawing shortly afterward, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

Since the fall of the Bashar Assad regime in December 2024, Israeli forces have conducted regular incursions into villages in southern Syria, particularly near Quneitra and Suwaida, arresting several Syrians.

An Israeli force of four military vehicles advanced on Wednesday to the outskirts of the village of Al-Razaniyah, Saida Al-Hanout, where they arrested two young men who were herding sheep.

Syria has accused Israel of consistently breaching the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through these incursions. It has reiterated its calls for Israel to withdraw from the occupied southern Syrian territory and from a UN demilitarised buffer zone it seized in December 2024.
