ISTANBUL: SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa , said on Wednesday that it would start imposing an additional fuel surcharge of 10 euros ($11.59) per passenger from May 1 due to rising fuel costs due to the Iran war.
According to calculations from Reuters data, crude oil prices, which were at $72.5 per barrel before the war, rose to around $120 during the conflict and are currently trading at around $100, marking a 38 percent increase. Jet fuel prices have seen increases that are sometimes even higher than the rise in crude oil prices.
“In line with current market conditions, SunExpress will introduce a temporary fuel surcharge of 10 euros per passenger per flight segment on routes between Türkiye and mainland Europe,” the company told Reuters.
It said the measures would “apply to all bookings made on or after April 1, 2026, for departures on or after May 1, 2026.”
