Pakistan condemns Kuwait attacks, expresses solidarity with Oman amid regional tensions

  • Sharif expresses solidarity after strikes cause deaths and injuries in Gulf states
  • PM urges dialogue in calls with Oman’s Sultan, Kuwait’s Crown Prince

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan condemned attacks on Kuwait and expressed solidarity with Oman after strikes caused deaths and injuries in the Gulf, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s office said on Wednesday.

The attacks are part of a widening regional escalation, with missile and drone strikes increasingly targeting locations beyond Iran and Israel, raising fears of a broader conflict across the Middle East.

Gulf countries including Oman and Kuwait, both key US partners, have reported casualties in recent days, prompting diplomatic outreach and calls for restraint from regional leaders. Two people were killed in Oman on Friday after authorities intercepted drones in the Sohar province, according to Oman’s state news agency.

Meanwhile, Kuwait has reported at least eight deaths since the conflict began on Feb. 28. Two of these were interior ministry officials of the country while six American soldiers were killed when an Iranian drone hit a US command center in Port Shuaiba on Mar. 1.

“The two leaders discussed the evolving regional situation and, while conveying Pakistan’s solidarity with the brotherly people of Oman over the loss of precious lives and injuries during the attacks in various parts of the country, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and constructive dialogue,” Sharif’s office said in a statement after a telephone call with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of Oman.

The two leaders also exchanged Eid greetings and reaffirmed bilateral ties.

Sharif also held a separate call with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al Khaled Al Hamad Al Mubarak Al Sabah.

He “condemned in the strongest terms, the attacks on Kuwait and expressed condolences over the loss of precious lives, while praying for early recovery of the injured,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Sharif also conveyed Pakistan’s solidarity with Kuwait and urged regional countries to work together to maintain peace and resolve differences through dialogue and diplomacy.

Both calls included exchanges of Eid greetings and reaffirmations of longstanding ties, with Sharif reiterating invitations to the Omani Sultan and Kuwaiti Crown Prince to visit Pakistan separately.
