RIYADH: Nine drones heading toward Shaybah Oil Field were intercepted and destroyed in the Empty Quarter, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense said on Monday.
A ballistic missile and drones launched toward the Eastern Province was also shot down, the ministry announced early on Tuesday.
The interceptions come a day after two Bangladeshis were killed and 12 others injured when a projectile fell on a residential area in the Kingdom’s Al-Kharj governorate.
The military projectile fell on a site belonging to a maintenance and cleaning company in Al-Kharj on Sunday evening, causing material damage, the Saudi Civil Defense said.
The Kingdom has condemned what it describes as Iran’s sustained campaign of aggression against Saudi Arabia, fellow GCC and other nations, cautioning that continued escalation would ultimately devastate Iran itself.
In a statement issued on Monday, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that if Iran presses ahead with its attacks, it would bear the heaviest diplomatic, economic, and strategic consequences, and be “the biggest loser.”
The ministry stated that the attacks were “unacceptable under any circumstances,” and reaffirmed the Kingdom’s right to take measures to protect its people, territory, and sovereignty.
The ministry also expressed the Kingdom’s deepest condolences to the governments and peoples of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates after a number of their armed and security personnel were killed while performing their national duties.
The Ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s solidarity with Kuwait and the UAE and pledged to provide all possible support for any measures they take. The Kingdom also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
