RIYADH: The Saudi Ports Authority and MEDLOG, the logistics arm of Mediterranean Shipping Co., inaugurated the company’s integrated logistics center at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, with investments exceeding SR150 million ($39.9 million) across an area of 100,000 sq. meters.
The project reflects the scale of development in the Kingdom’s transport and logistics sector and strengthens its position as a global logistics hub.
The event also saw MSC name one of its international vessels after Saudi Arabia.
The event coincided with the 30th anniversary of the company’s operations in the Kingdom, marking a journey of achievements and strategic partnerships in maritime transport and logistics that has supported the national transport system.
The inauguration, attended by Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority Saleh Al-Jasser, reflects the significant progress of the sector and reinforces the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub.
Al-Jasser expressed pride in the achievement, saying the integrated logistics center represents a qualitative transformation in the transport and logistics sector and confirms the status of Saudi ports among leading regional and international gateways.
He said the center will provide advanced and smart logistics services, enhance the port’s handling capacity, and boost regional and global competitiveness, supporting trade flows and strengthening the Kingdom’s logistics standing.
He added that MSC’s naming of a vessel after the Kingdom and the launch of its logistics center symbolize a long-standing strategic partnership, reflect global investor confidence in the Saudi business environment, and demonstrate the Kingdom’s growing international presence in maritime logistics.
Al-Jasser said that this partnership represents a successful model of integration between the public and private sectors and coincides with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the company’s launch in the Kingdom.
He said the logistics center marks an important milestone in developing the national logistics system and reflects leadership’s support for the vital sector.
He added that it is part of broader efforts to enhance the capabilities of the Kingdom’s ports, raise their operational efficiency, and enable them to play a larger role in supporting regional and international trade.
Suliman Al-Mazroua, president of the Saudi Ports Authority, said MSC’s vessel naming underscores the Kingdom’s pivotal role in global supply chains.
He added that the logistics center supports Mawani’s strategy to develop advanced infrastructure aligned with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a logistics platform linking three continents.
King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is known for its advanced infrastructure and integrated logistics facilities, attracting major international companies. It includes 43 fully equipped berths and has a handling capacity of up to 105 million tonnes of cargo and containers annually.
