DAVOS: Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, signed the founding charter of US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” on Thursday.
The decision to participate reflected the Kingdom’s support for efforts to bring lasting peace to Gaza, he said.
Saudi Arabia was one of eight Arab and Islamic nations that announced on Wednesday they would join the initiative, which aims to stabilize and rebuild the war-ravaged Palestinian territory.
Prince Faisal signed the document during a ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where Trump launched the charter at an event attended by a number of other founding nations, including Turkiye and Qatar.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry said the signing of the document showed the Kingdom’s “commitment to supporting the mission of the Board of Peace as a transitional administration to end the conflict in the Gaza strip, as adopted by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.”
The move also reflected Saudi Arabia’s support for the reconstruction of Gaza and a push toward lasting peace, and it welcomed Trump’s peace efforts, the ministry added.
The US president helped broker a peace deal in September that largely ended Israel’s two-year war on Gaza, which devastated the territory and killed more than 70,000 Palestinians.
