RIYADH: Saudi Arabia highlighted its growing economic partnership with Thailand by hosting the Thailand International Mega Fair from Dec. 7 to 9 in Riyadh.
The three-day event brought together government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and consumers, showcasing Thailand’s industries, culture, and investment potential.
Visitors entering the fairgrounds were greeted by a symphony of scents, from Thai oud and natural leather to rich spices, exotic fruits, and the comforting aroma of tom yum soup simmering at food stalls.
More than 150 Thai brands participated, covering sectors such as food and beverages, health and wellness, tourism, fragrances and oud, smart agriculture, decor, construction materials, automotive components, and business solutions.
The fair also highlighted the growing presence of Thai products in the Saudi market. At one booth, premium stingray leather handbags attracted strong interest.
“I was contacted by people from the Fashion Commission in Saudi Arabia to start a business here using stingray leather,” said Asia Linn, a representative of the shop.
“As you can see, I have a collection of handbags here, and the Saudi market likes exotic leather. I am happy to be here and participate in this event.”
Another stall offering Thai dried fruits and the country’s famous herbal inhalers drew enthusiastic buyers. “I’m happy to be here, to experience Saudi culture, and our products are selling fast," said vendor Aris May.
Meanwhile, natural oral-care brand Denta Mate reported a surge in demand during the fair. “We sold out of the toothbrushes, and the toothpaste is considered premium,” said Ann Li, representing the company at the event.
Beyond commerce, the fair featured cultural performances, including traditional Thai dances that captivated visitors and showcased the nation’s artistic heritage.
Thai restaurants and food vendors also played a central role, allowing attendees to sample authentic dishes and explore the country’s vibrant culinary culture.
The opening ceremony brought together senior officials from both nations, including Kirida Bhaopichitr, vice minister for commerce of the Royal Thai Government; Darm Boontham, Thailand’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia; and Osama Qoqandi, chairman of the Saudi–Thai Business Council.
Speaking at the event, Visit Limlurcha, vice chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, highlighted the momentum in bilateral ties since the full restoration of diplomatic relations in 2022.
He said the Thailand International Mega Fair has become a key government-backed platform supporting trade, investment, tourism, and emerging industries.
Organized in strategic partnership with the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, the fair was supported by the Royal Thai Embassy in Riyadh, the Federation of Saudi Chambers, the Saudi–Thai Business Council, and the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce.
With strong participation and growing interest from Saudi consumers and investors, the event reflected the strengthening economic bridge between the two nations — a relationship expected to expand into new sectors in the coming years.
