China announces $100m in aid for Palestinian Authority

  • Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas highlighted China’s key role in supporting Palestinian rights
  • President Xi Jinping said China and France will push for a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue

LONDON: China announced $100 million in humanitarian aid to the Palestinian Authority to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and support reconstruction, the PA said on Thursday.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas sent a letter of gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping after the announcement, which was made at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron in Beijing.

Abbas highlighted China’s key role in supporting Palestinian rights and alleviating the effects of Israeli occupation in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, according to Wafa news agency.

President Xi said that China will work with France to push for a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue as soon as possible, the Xinhua News Agency reported. Xi underlined the importance of both countries maintaining strategic vision, mutual support, and the political foundations of their bilateral relations despite global changes.

Macron, who is visiting China for three days, co-chaired a high-level conference in September in New York with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to garner support for a two-state solution and the recognition of a Palestinian state.
