Jordan beats UAE 2–1 in FIFA Arab Cup

DOHA: Jordan’s national football team defeated the UAE 2-1 at the Al Bayt Stadium in Doha on Wednesday during their first match in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025.

The opening goal came in the 20th minute from a penalty converted by Ali Olwan, awarded following a foul on Yazan Al-Naimat was fouled. Al-Naimat earned another penalty in the 38th minute after being fouled again, but with Olwan’s second attempt saved it meant the score stood 1-0 at the break.

The UAE’s Bruno equalized almost immediately in the second half, scoring in the 47th minute, before Jordan regained the lead in the 63rd minute with a goal from Al-Naimat.

Jordan maintained the advantage until the final whistle and collected their first three points in the tournament to top Group C. Egypt and Kuwait lie in second and third place respectively with a single point each, while the UAE remains on zero.

Jordan is set to face Kuwait next on Saturday at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, before concluding the group stage against Egypt on Tuesday at the Al Bayt Stadium.

DUBAI: Daniil Medvedev was awarded the Dubai Tennis Championships title after his opponent Tallon Griekspoor withdrew due to an injury he suffered in the semifinals, tournament organizers said on Saturday.
Russian Medvedev was chasing a ⁠second title in ⁠Dubai after he beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in the last four, and the former world number one ⁠reached the final without dropping a set.
Griekspoor said after his straight-sets win over Andrey Rublev that he was struggling with a hamstring injury and would have retired had he lost the ⁠second ⁠set.
“Not how I want to win a final. Hoping the injury for Griekspoor is not too bad and wishing him a speedy recovery,” Medvedev wrote on X.
