Leading Pakistani mobile banking service simplifies payments for sacrificial animals on Eid Al-Adha

  • The festival generates significant economic activity within the livestock, retail and transportation sectors
  • Easypaisa is using the State Bank of Pakistan’s QR code system under the instant Raast payment service

ISLAMABAD: The largest payment wallet in the country, Easypaisa, has introduced an in-app QR-based payment method for the purchase of sacrificial animals, reported the state-run media on Friday, to facilitate users ahead of Eid Al-Adha.

Easypaisa, offered by Telenor Pakistan, allows users to store funds, make payments and transfer money using their phones.

“Easypaisa is bringing ease and convenience to its users on the Eid-ul-Azha for the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals through its very own in-app Raast-based QR code payment mechanism,” the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) said on Friday.

The initiative utilizes the State Bank of Pakistan’s QR code system under the instant Raast payment service.

Eid Al-Adha not only embodies significant religious observance but also acts as a catalyst for considerable economic momentum in Pakistan, particularly boosting the livestock sector, retail, transportation and financial services.\

As families across the nation prepare for the festival by purchasing sacrificial animals and other goods, a surge in spending creates vital economic opportunities, requiring robust payment mechanisms that users find convenient.

“Given the magnitude of transactions taking place during the Eid ul Azha time frame, Easypaisa will enable customers to transact securely and conveniently through its in-app QR feature and support SBP in its mission to drive Pakistan’s digital financial space forward,” it added.

Pakistan’s central bank is vigorously pushing for an expansion in e-banking and mobile banking services, aiming to enhance accessibility and convenience for users nationwide.

Its initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the financial landscape of the country and ensure that banking facilities are within the reach of every citizen, regardless of their location.
