RIYADH, 26 March 2004 — X-tremes succeeded on their second attempt, bagging Team of the Week honors during the third week of the Pizza Inn Thursday Bowling League Second Conference at the Riyadh Bowling Club here.
X-tremes outgunned The Bowlmates in a high-scoring battle 4,092-4,048 and went on to post the top score of 26 points in a performance that effectively washed away the frustration from last week when they were bumped off by D’Marvelous for team honors.
It was the second straight 26-point output for the consistent X-tremes who restricted The Bowlmates to 20 points in their four-game match. RBC Patriots bowled solid in a 24-17 conquest of Amera Cargo on total pinfalls of 4,040 and 3,872 even as D’Marvelous, for all their perceived strength, were made to struggle in a 23-22 verdict with “A” Bowlers on total pinfalls of 4,096 and 3,992.
D’Young & Veterans pipped Dink Fair “Sweater” 22-19 (3,992-3,902), while Dugong Bughaw downed Keglers Manila 21-16 (3,856-3,782) in the other matches in the five-man team tournament sponsored by United Food Company (Pizza Inn).
Ding Balagtas of RBC Patriots outraced everyone else for the individual Bowler of the Week honors when he carded the high series of 924 on rounds of 223, 190, 247, 232 and 32 handicap.
Captained by Leo Laucencia, X-tremes lost just one game while sweeping the bonus points for scores of 850, 900 and 950 with game totals of 1,028, 959, 1,024 and 1,081. That 959 prevented what would have been a sweep of the bonus points for scores of 1,000.
At the vanguard of the X-tremes attack was Lito Briones who fired 906. He was backed up by Ed Rodriguez with 795 and William Ebay with 778. Teammates Laudencia, Edwin Pecson and Raman Gurung added 654, 576 and 383 in that order.
Bowlmates banked heavily on the trio of Mikee Alcaraz (833), Jun Ausa (833) and James Salva (818).
Besides Balagtas, Cas Encila and Dads Pangilinan also did well for the Patriots with 836 and 776.
Arnold Marchan and Jojo Miraflor led D’Young & Veterans with 849 and 832 respectively, while Jett Cabana of “A” Bowler and Freddie Aquino of D’Marvelous both ranked high in the individual ranking at 874 and 862.
Team standings after the third week: 1. D’Marvelous 77 points 2. X-tremes 71 3. “A” Bowlers 70 4. RBC Patriots 68 5. D’Young & Veterans 64 6. Amera Cargo 64 7. Dugong Bughaw 58 8. Dink Fair “Sweater” 57 9. The Bowlmates 44 10. Kirotzky 44 11. Keglers Manila 29.
