ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani emphasized the significance of continuous debate on Pakistan’s foreign policy amid rapid global developments, as the country inaugurated three-day Envoys’ Conference in the federal capital on Thursday.
The event has brought together diplomats from various countries with significant international clout.
Pakistan’s foreign policy has already undergone a major shift from geopolitics to geo-economics, with the country striving for greater regional connectivity to promote trade and people-to-people contacts within the neighborhood.
Jilani made the inaugural address at the conference, highlighting “the importance of regular debate on Pakistan’s foreign policy and global and regional developments,” according to his team at the ministry.
“The conference will deliberate and finalize recommendations on a range of bilateral, regional and global dimensions of Pakistan’s foreign policy,” said an official statement.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the event.
Pakistan has tried to contain security challenges posed by militant factions operating in the region while trying to strengthen economic infrastructure with Chinese assistance.
The country has also reached out to friendly nations in the Middle East while trying to explore markets for its technology exports and secure foreign investment.
