Jordan launches $39m US-funded water infrastructure project

  • Project aims to modernize facilities, stimulate skill development, sustainably operate advanced systems

AMMAN: Jordan’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation, in partnership with the US Agency for International Development, launched on Tuesday a $39 million water infrastructure enhancement project. 

The US-funded project aims to ensure the efficient use of water resources in Jordan, the Jordan News Agency reported.

Mohammad Najjar, the minister of water and irrigation, said the initiative was in line with efforts to achieve the objectives of the National Water Strategy 2023-2040.

Najjar added that the collaboration showed the commitment of the US to support Jordan in achieving water security. 

USAID Deputy Director Christopher Steele said the project sought to modernize water and sanitation facilities, stimulate skill development across varied regions, improve project execution, and sustainably operate advanced systems.

LONDON: UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan on Thursday met the senior adviser to US President Donald Trump for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, in Abu Dhabi.

The two sides discussed the growing strategic relations between their countries as well as a number of regional issues and developments, the Emirates News Agency reported.

They emphasized the need to enhance efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, adviser to the UAE president Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al-Nahyan and Minister of State Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al-Nahyan were also present.
