ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari met his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, where the two figures discussed bilateral relations and resolved to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries, the Pakistani foreign office said on Monday.
Bhutto-Zardari arrived in the UAE on a one-day official visit on Sunday. The Pakistani foreign minister offered heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, brother of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who passed away on July 27.
The two foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations between Pakistan and the UAE and exchanged views on regional and global developments, according to the Pakistani foreign office.
“They expressed satisfaction with bilateral multidimensional cooperation including in trade, investment, energy, information technology and infrastructure,” it said in a statement. “They reaffirmed their joint resolve to strengthen mutually rewarding economic ties.”

FM Bhutto-Zardari thanked the UAE leadership for its consistent and unwavering support to Pakistan in difficult times, according to the statement. UAE this month deposited $1 billion in Pakistan’s central bank, ahead of Islamabad getting a formal nod from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $3 billion bailout package.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah appreciated the valuable contributions made by the Pakistani community in the development of the UAE.
Earlier, the Pakistani foreign minister participated in the unveiling of a wax statue of his late mother and two-time Pakistan prime minister, Benazir Bhutto, at Madame Tussauds in Dubai.
On the occasion, he spoke about the legacy of Bhutto as the first woman head of a Muslim country, which continues to inspire youth, women and democratic movements around the world.
