RIYADH: The secretary-general of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition, Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, on Wednesday received a delegation of officers of the Advanced Command and Staff Course from the Defense Academy of the UK, led by its director, Brig. Gen. Matt Jackson.
During the session in Riyadh, Al-Moghedi noted the depth of strategic relations between the UK and the countries of the Islamic coalition.
The visitors were briefed on the coalition’s vision, objectives and role in countering extremism and coordinating efforts to confront terrorist tendencies through its ideology, communication, counterterrorist financing and military initiatives.
They were also briefed on the latest developments regarding terrorist groups and incidents around the world, and the coalition’s role in following up on these developments.
Al-Moghedi said the main objective of the coalition was to combat all incitement to violence and confront all extremist trends, beliefs and ideas, adding that violent extremism was not the hallmark of any particular culture, religion or region.
He said the UK’s presence, as a supporting country, in the Islamic coalition had had an impact on and lent a strategic dimension to the fight against terrorism, adding that international cooperation and global solidarity were the most powerful weapons to defeat it.
The delegates expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality they received and praised the efforts of the coalition in combating terrorism and extremism.
The visit is part of the cooperation between the coalition and its member states, which lends support to countries, strengthens partnerships and aids the exchange of expertise in the fight against terrorism.
