Who’s Who: Dr. Tareef Yusuf Al-Aama, Saudi deputy minister at the Ministry of Health

Dr. Tareef Yusuf Al-Aama is a Saudi deputy minister at the Ministry of Health with more than 20 years experience in the health sector. Al-Aama is in charge of curative services that are provided by more than 60,000 healthcare professionals.

Al-Aama has served as deputy minister for therapeutic services at the Health Ministry in Riyadh since 2014. He is responsible for the oversight of 270 public hospitals with a total capacity of 40,000 beds and more than 90,000 nurses.

His responsibilities in overseeing the hospitals include rehabilitation services, home healthcare services provided to more than 50,000 patients, mental health services, radiology, pharmaceutical services, forensic medicine and nutrition.

Al-Aama is chairman of the board of the National Center for Alternative and Complementary Medicine that oversees all the practice of alternative and complementary medicine in both public and private sectors in the Kingdom. He is head of the Pharmaceutical and Therapeutic Committee, in charge of all medication and therapeutic purchasing and credentialing in the ministry.

Before his position, Al-Aama was capacity platform leader at the Command and Control Center of the Health Ministry, where he was in charge of capacity issues such as manpower, supplies and structure.

There, he successfully achieved the operation of multiple hospitals and units, as well as initiated multiple projects and task forces to improve essential health services in the Kingdom. These included home care, rehabilitation, blood banks, emergency care, maternal and infant mortality.

Al-Aama is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and a Certified Physician Executive.

The Saudi deputy minster received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from King Abdulaziz University Medical School in Jeddah, where he ranked top of his class.

Saudi foreign minister discusses Gaza and West Bank situation with Palestinian vice president

RIYADH: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank during a meeting with the Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh in Riyadh on Wednesday.

Talks included the dire humanitarian conditions faced by Gaza’s residents, Israel’s ongoing violations of the ceasefire there, and the Israeli escalation in the West Bank, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The two officials highlighted the importance of ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, releasing Palestinian Authority funds, protecting the Palestinian banking system, the implementation of President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, and the Kingdom’s support for a reform program launched by President Mahmoud Abbas.

They also discussed continuing efforts to ensure the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the formation of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
