NEW YORK: Britain’s Prince Andrew has reached a settlement with Virginia Giuffre, a court filing showed on Tuesday, after she accused him in a lawsuit of sexually abusing her more than two decades ago when she was 17.
Giuffre sued the Duke of York last August, alleging he battered her while the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was trafficking her.
In a joint court filing, lawyers for Giuffre and Andrew said the settlement includes an undisclosed sum and that Andrew intends to make a substantial donation to Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights.
“Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms. Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks,” the filing said.

Russia says seven injured as Ukrainian drone hits apartment block
- Night-time attack at Tver came amid a heightened drone campaign by Ukraine as peace efforts drag on
MOSCOW: Debris from a Ukrainian drone hit an apartment block northwest of Moscow, injuring seven people as it set off a fire, Russian authorities said Friday.
The night-time attack at Tver, some 180 kilometers from the Russian capital, came amid a heightened drone campaign by Ukraine as peace efforts drag on.
The regional interim governor Vitaly Korolyov said on Telegram that six adults and a child were injured and about 20 people had to be evacuated from the apartment block in the city of more than 400,000 people.
“At Tver, we are battling the consequences of the fall of debris from a drone on a residential building,” he said.
The Tass state news agency said the drone debris set off a fire in one apartment and the windows of several others were smashed.
Ukraine, which has been fighting off near daily shelling since the start of Russia’s assault in February 2022, has launched drone strikes that it says targets Russian military and energy infrastructure.
Russia said Thursday that it shot down more than 300 Ukrainian drones, in one of the biggest Ukrainian mass raids of the conflict. Hundreds of flights in and out of Moscow airports were canceled.
