ISLAMABAD: Captain of Pakistan’s T20 cricket squad Babar Azam called it a “proud moment” after his team became the first side to qualify for the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2021 on Tuesday.
Pakistan have played four matches in the tournament and remain on top of the points table in its group after winning all of them.
Azam’s team sealed the semifinal berth on Tuesday after defeating Namibia by 45 runs.
Pakistan have yet to play one last group match against Scotland on Sunday, though they have already entered the next stage of the tournament.
“A proud moment for Pakistan team for qualifying for the semis; but the job is not done yet,” Azam said in a Twitter post on Wednesday after defeating Namibia. “This is all setting up for more efforts, more focus, more team performances and more determination. One game at a time, In shaa’Allah.”
Earlier, Pakistan beat their arch-rival India by 10 wickets in the Super 12 stage of the World Cup in Dubai.
Pakistan also outperformed New Zealand by first restricting them at 134/8 and then chasing the target in 18.4 overs.
The tournament, however, is likely to get tougher as the top four teams clash with each other and compete for the cup in the next few matches.
