RIYADH: Saudi Arabia recorded 14 new COVID-19 related deaths on Wednesday, raising the total number of fatalities to 7,921.
The Ministry of Health confirmed 1,207 new cases reported in the Kingdom in the previous 24 hours, meaning 496,516 people have now contracted the disease.
Of the total number of cases, 11,952 remain active and 1,379 in critical condition.
According to the ministry, the highest number of cases were recorded in the capital Riyadh with 307, followed by the Eastern Province with 264, Makkah with 222, Asir recorded 184, and Jazan confirmed 67 cases.
The health ministry also announced that 1,195 patients had recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 476,643, a recovery rate of 96.1 percent.

More than 19 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered at 587 vaccination centers set up by the government across the Kingdom, a rate of 54.6 doses per 100 people.
More than 54.5 percent of the Kingdom’s population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, and the number receiving a second dose is expected to rise in the coming days as a result of increased appointment availability for people in the 40-plus and 30-plus age groups.
The ministry on Wednesday reiterated the importance of continuing to adhere to precautionary measures and following official guidelines.
It added that between June 27 and July 4, Madinah Health Affairs carried out a total of 446 inspections — of 105 hospitals, 93 medical centers and 248 pharmacies — to ensure compliance with precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
Also on Wednesday, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs reopened five mosques in four regions after temporarily evacuating and sterilizing them after five people tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of mosques closed and reopened after being sterilized to 1,777 within 151 days.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected over 185 million people globally and the death toll has reached around 4.01 million.
