RIYADH: The Arab coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi militia towards Jazan on Thursday.
The attack on Jazan comes days after the coalition thwarted a ballistic missile attack by the Iranian-backed Houthis on the Saudi capital Riyadh, and destroyed six armed drones launched towards cities in the Kingdom’s south.
The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf condemned the attack. He said the continuation of such extremist actions reflect the Houthis’ refusal to comply with international laws.
Al-Hajraf further praised the Arab coalition’s success in confronting all Houthi attacks. The GCC supports the Kingdom and all its measures to defend its lands, and preserve its security and safety of its citizens and residents, he said.
Meanwhile, the UAE denounced the recurring Houthi attempts to target civilians in a systematic and deliberate manner through a ballistic missile attack.
The foreign ministry said continuation of such incidents was a dangerous escalation, and proved the Houthis’ intended to undermine the security and stability of the region.
Bahrain also condemned the Iranian-backed Houthi militia’s actions against Saudi Arabia, praising the readiness of the Saudi Royal Air Defense and coalition forces in foiling these attacks.
Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi also expressed his condemnation of the attacks. Jordan fully supports the Kingdom and the steps it takes to protect its security, stability and its people, he said.
Safadi also discussed Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in supporting joint Arab action and achieving security, stability and peace in the region.
On Tuesday, a missile launched by the Houthis injured five people after it fell in Jazan.
The Kingdom has seen an increase in attacks by the militia after a Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia's Abha International airport in February.
