Desert Technologies powers Dakar Rally bivouac in NEOM

In line with the Vision 2030 goals of revolutionizing environmental sustainability, Desert Technologies (DT), a Saudi solar energy firm, launched for the first time its Sahara containerized solar generator (CSG), in collaboration with Green Corp Konnection (GCK), to power part of the bivouac in NEOM during this year’s Dakar Rally.

The unit used one small container (20 feet) and two standard containers (40 feet) to generate 62 kW of energy to partially power the assembly area for rally drivers.

The Sahara CSG, whether in events, military sites, desert camp sites, or even in the most inhospitable locations, is capable of providing 100 percent clean energy directly from the sun during the day or through a battery pack during the night. With its quick and easy installation, the Sahara is a silent, 24/7 operating compact and portable unit with cost effectiveness and minimal maintenance.

Khaled Sharbatly, managing partner of Desert Technologies, said: “There is a bright future for the energy industry, which is localized and can compete globally. The Saudi Vision 2030 sets out $200 billion in renewables to build factories and produce around 30 million solar panels in the Kingdom, which could generate more than 100 000 jobs.”

Nour Mousa, CEO of Desert Technologies, said: “Desert Technologies’ integrated approach from inception guarantees long-term sustainable growth of the industry and ensures job creation. The company is creating permanent jobs that did not exist before and might not have existed otherwise. The permanent importation of skills and technology that are new in the region contributes directly to the creation of a knowledge-based economy.”

Sahara is an international product, launched in Saudi Arabia in line with the objectives of Vision 2030, namely the reduction of dependency on oil. The solution is fitted for off-grid projects that require cheaper and sustainable alternatives to diesel generators and other energy sources.
