The UK Embassy in Saudi Arabia stepped up the repatriation process by announcing more flights to London for British nationals and residents.
An embassy statement shared details and flight updates: “Saudia is now operating the flights: Jeddah-London on June 24 and Jeddah-London on June 28. To book tickets, please visit the Saudia website www.saudia.com, remembering to select ‘one-way’.”
It said that many British nationals and residents wanted to return to the UK in the coming weeks and that the embassy expected “further flights” from Riyadh to London before the end of June. “We will share details when flights are confirmed. Tickets will be available from www.saudia.com,” it added.
The diplomatic mission clarified that it would no longer be providing transport to the airport or permission letters as domestic travel restrictions in the Kingdom had been lifted. If people needed to travel during curfew they were to show their boarding pass or booking confirmation at checkpoints. Iqama holders could also request permission via the Tawakkalna app, though this step was not essential.
“If you are a British national or resident located in Makkah only and cannot secure permissions via the app, you can request an embassy letter to support your transport to Jeddah airport by emailing [email protected].”
The UK has introduced new guidelines for passengers arriving from overseas and the embassy advised people to refer to the guidance at https://www.gov.uk/uk-border-control.

“We are working with the Saudi authorities to try and establish a flight back from the UK to Saudi Arabia for those resident in Saudi Arabia, but for now it remains impossible to say when flights may restart. Please take this into account when planning your travel,” the embassy statement added.
UK Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Neil Crompton has thanked Saudi Arabia for its help in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, retweeting a message of gratitude from the UK’s Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.
“Very grateful to Saudi Arabia for the generous donation of hundreds of thousands of medical gowns to our NHS,” the tweet said. “The UK and Saudi Arabia will continue to work together to tackle this global pandemic.”

The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen carried out a limited airstrike in December targeting foreign military support at the Port of Mukalla in the Hadramaut governorate, where calm has been restored after a period of tension.
In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency following the strikes, coalition spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki said two ships coming from the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates entered the Port of Mukalla without obtaining official permits from the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition.
“The crews of the two ships disabled their tracking systems and unloaded a large quantity of weapons and combat vehicles to support the Southern Transitional Council forces in the eastern governorates of Yemen (Hadramaut and Al-Mahra) with the aim of fueling the conflict. This is a clear violation of the truce and the pursuit of a peaceful solution, as well as a violation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216,” said the spokesman.
