ISLAMABAD: King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, KSrelief, distributed thousands of portions of sacrificial meat in Pakistan to poor families, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported. The distribution of meat near the occasion of Eid Al-Adha is an annual feature.
“A number of 5,472 portions of meat were distributed to the needy and poor families, widows and orphans, benefiting 38,304 people,” SPA said.
Following the completion of the Hajj, pilgrims from around the world gather to celebrate Eid Al-Adha in Saudi Arabia, and slaughter sacrificial animals, including goats, sheep, cows and camels, to mark the festival.
Due to the sheer quantity of resulting and leftover meat, a mechanism was devised by Saudi authorities to collect and preserve the meat, and then distribute it to different Muslim countries for humanitarian relief, including in Pakistan.
In the holy month of Ramadan, the Saudi Embassy handed out 4,700 food baskets among the poor in the country and earlier this month, Saudi Envoy to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Maliki launched an assistance program to facilitate flood victims in Azad Kashmir alongside a team from KSrelief, after heavy rainfall and flooding killed more than 30 people in the area.
In December last year, the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, visited the KSrelief Center in Saudi Arabia and lauded the Kingdom’s repeated humanitarian assistance for Pakistan.
