Thunder and dust storm weather warning for Makkah

  • Saudi Arabia’s meteorologists said the storm would start early evening and last until 1 a.m.

JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s meteorologists warned on Wednesday that thunder and dust storms will hit Makkah and other nearby areas overnight.

The General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection issued a warning to residents in Makkah, Khalees, Rabegh and Al-Jumoom that the storm would start early evening and last until 1 am local time.

Makkah's Department of Civil Defense called on citizens and residents to avoid areas near lakes and valleys close to the mountainous reagions.

The statement also warned residents to avoid using mobile phones in lightning conditions.

Al-Sudais launches charity campaign in Makkah

MAKKAH: Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, the president of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, has launched the Al-Jood Menna Wa Feena (Generosity Springs From Us and Returns to Us) campaign — affiliated with the Jood Housing platform — in Makkah.

Al-Sudais said that the presidency’s participation in the campaign stemmed from a sense of social responsibility and was a reinforcement of the values of solidarity encouraged by religion.

He also expressed his gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their gracious patronage of charitable works which helped to serve the interest of citizens while ensuring a good and stable life.
