ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa confirmed death sentences of "15 hardcore terrorists", said a statement by army media wing ISPR on Thursday
According to the statement, the convicts were prosecuted in special military courts where they confessed to their crimes before judicial magistrates and received death sentences.
"All convicts were active members of proscribed militant entities and were involved in heinous terrorism-related offences. Some of them were guilty of attacking armed forces or law enforcement agencies of the country, while others were responsible for bombing education institutions and killing innocent civilians." the statements adds.
Pakistan had put a moratorium on capital punishment in 2008.
However, it was lifted after an attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar where nearly 130 children were massacred in December 2014. Subsequently, the country had also set up military courts to prosecute suspected terrorists.
